Acupuncture Helps IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Help for IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Over the years I’ve seen many cases of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, IBS and patients who have similar symptoms but without a diagnosis. I have found that Acupuncture is really helpful in cases where stress, anxiety or weak digestion are the triggers. Acupuncture treatment in the majority of cases can reduce symptoms as well as the frequency.

 Main symptoms are:

Cramping
Sharp pain
Diarrhoea / looseness
Constipation
Fluctuating diarrhoea and constipation

Additional symptoms experiences can be:

Nausea
Low energy
Backache
Urination problems
Mucus in poo
Flatulence
Anxiety
Muscle pains
Headaches
Heartburn indigestion

Stress, diet, norovirus or gastroenteritis can cause IBS or it can be hereditary.  Some people will have mild symptoms and experience a few episodes whilst others it can be life limiting.  Severe episodes can occur on a daily basis affecting work or restricting life as people are worried about when they will get the next episode or even where is the nearest toilet.

NICE (National Institute for Health & Care Excellence) states that IBS affects between 10 to 20% of the population in the UK.

This syndrome is common in people in their 20’s to 30’s but can affect teenagers or the elderly furthermore women seem to be more affected than men.
