Acupuncture to help Fertility

Acupuncture is recognised as a natural therapy to help boost fertility. I have seen many women over the years that want to prepare their body and mind before they start trying for a baby and those struggling to fall pregnant.

It is a good idea to have acupuncture before trying for a baby. Regulating the cycle is important, supporting the lining of the endometrium and follicle development, ensuring ovulation takes place mid cycle so the egg does not over mature or be immature. Reducing PMS symptoms, allowing the smooth build up to a period, without the mood swings and painful periods.

Not falling pregnant?

One of the main underlying factors I see is stress. This can be work/home related or the stress and anxiety caused by the want and need to conceive. When trying to conceive it can be all consuming and can take over your day to day thoughts and life.

Dealing with stress and anxiety is very important and acupuncture is really helpful, encouraging the body and mind to relax.

Research has shown that acupuncture can be of benefit by:

Regulating fertility hormones by releasing beta endorphins in the brain which can affect hormones released in relation to the hypothalamus, pituitary gland and ovaries. For instance, influencing the levels of progesterone and oestrogen from the ovaries.

Acupuncture increases blood flow to the reproductive organs, supporting the lining and blood flow, the endometrium.

Stress has a big impact on fertility; it can stimulate the sympathetic nervous system causing many problems such as restricting the ovary arteries. Acupuncture inhibits the sympathetic nervous system allowing blood to flow through ovary arteries, to the uterus and follicles.

Counteracting the effects of PCOS, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, by balancing hormones, reducing the number of cysts, stimulating ovulation and regulating periods.
