Acupuncture Awareness Week is supported by the British Acupuncture Council. This year the focus is on back pain. A study carried out by the BAcC shows that Britain is heading towards an epidemic of general back pain due to sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy habits. The study showed that 80% of back pain suffers admitted to lifestyle habits that put unnecessary strain on their backs.

Here are some of the results from the study of 5,000 adults

  • Almost half admitted to eating on their lap
  • 40% complain that they sit at their desk all day
  • one third admitted to slouching most of the time
  • 74% relied on painkillers rather than addressing root cause of problem

Many people find that they can reduce the amount of painkillers with acupuncture treatment as well as making valuable lifestyle changes.  Acupuncture not only helps with pain but as Chinese Traditional Acupuncturists we also treat the person as a whole. The emphasis is on the patient feeling the wider benefits.
